Luminiah’s “out of time” speaks on those first moments in a new love. Specifically, it speaks on that early time where you or your partner is put a bit on a pedastal. That’s the point where you’re scared to let the other person down, but also scared that they put you up there in the first place. You kind of have to learn to accept that love, when permanent, starts like this and then eventually evens out to where both parties are comfortable. But those first few weeks or months, even? They can be exhilarating and confusing all at once Love can be an odd mistress, for sure.
Over lush instrumentation and multilayered vocals and melodies, Luminiah creates a space for us to dissect what it really means to be in love. She lets us know that she’s not really sure how to take how things are going thus far in the song’s relationship. She’s apprehensive about the whole thing, seemingly not because she doesn’t know how to love, nor because she is afraid of love. That is, at least not conceptually. Once it’s right there in front of her, it’s more of an apprehension about love being shown, how to reciprocate and what may be “just enough” and what is “doing too much.” This has to be sorted out on the receiving side (Luminiah) and her partner’s side providing the pedestal.
I absolutely love the idea that love is like a race against time. Will you reciprocate in enough time? Will the other person accept you, right now, for who you are (right now)? Will I be enough this time? Will they be enough for me? All of these feelings and more are spoken on in this track that clocks in at just over three-and-a-half-minutes.
