“Jaguar,” the newest from artist ARIA, is a bit out of my traditional wheelhouse. That’s because it has a lot of crossover and pop potential. Sonically, it reminds me of an early 2010s radio hip-hop jam in the best way imaginable. It also reminds me of summer pop rap. It’s a bop, it’s catchy, and there’s a good amount of rhyming within the lyrics. Plus, it seems like a track I would’ve heard at a club back when Bacardi still made their 151-proof rum (overproof rums are nothing to play with, if you do partake in them).
On top of that, its beat seemingly samples the same Aaliyah vocals A$AP Rocky’s “F’in’ Problems” did. Whereas 40 flipped the sample for a crunchier, bass-heavy rumpshaker, the beat ARIA uses here is a bit more airy and bouncy, a la a Jack Harlow cut. Overall, it’s a song that’s anthemic and also a celebration of wins all around. At the end of the day, it’s not the wins but the way you experience and celebrate them that ends up mattering the most. ARIA floats victories out there on the song–while hugging it precisely like a Jaguar over a freshly-repaved road. In other words, he’s done good and this song will help you celebrate your own wins. If you’re like me and need some summer anthem music? I recommend peeping “Jaguar” and supporting dope music in all its forms.
