Backwood Bobby and Lil B Connect for Summertime Fun on “That’s So Raven”

Backwood Bobby is a Tucson, Arizona native who hit me up about his latest cut, the nostalgic “That’s So Raven.” While sharing a name with the 2000s Disney sitcom, the vibes Backwood Bobby give us here are more Eddie than Raven. They’re smooth, very playful and also very blunt about the intended results. They don’t go into IRL Orlando territory, so you can play this around your teen kids (maybe). Inversely, you could play it around your parents if you’re a teen (again, maybe).

Instead of dark themes and outlandish actions, we find Bobby joined by a surprise cameo from Lil B where they let it be known who their eyes are focused in on. Bobby sees a future with them, but not just a one-night sort of thing. Lil B wants to connect first and see where it goes. Lyrically, the track leans into pop rap territory. That is, the artists focus on the feeling behind the lyrics–not just the lyrics. And it works amazingly well here. After all, it’s a fun joint that’s got a true summertime vibe to it. I think that, sometimes, it’s okay to have hella fun and shake a little booty. And shake booty, you will, on this one. as the production will take you back to mid-to-late 2000s Bay Area hip-hop mixed with a dash of Arizona swagger.

Memorial Day’s coming up, so cookouts, fireworks, vacations, sundresses, baseball, and booty shorts. We’re entering prime “let’s kickback for a second” season, so songs like this are needed. Check it out above and support dope music in all its forms.
