Tanya George Gets “Serious” on New Song

Above is the latest song from Australian artist Tanya George. “Serious” is an anthemic song for women who feel unseen. Specifically, she details the concept of one-sided love and its effects on the one doing the loving. Her vocals help punctuate her points and tell us she is a force to be reckoned with–either professionally or romantically. After all, George co-produced, wrote, sang and co-mixed this one. It feels like a mix between Adele with her vocal phrasing and the ’80s. No specific artist, just the beginning of the 80s where there was a mix between the end of disco, funk, rock, pop and R&B. In other words, I love this song, plain and simple.

She’s someone who doesn’t back down, even when the world seems on someone else’s side. That determination, mixed with a lot of frustration, creates this track and its mantra of “you’re going to listen to me…and you’re going to (pun wholly intended) take me seriously.” I love that sort of energy from my posts, because I believe that all music can be protest songs. It helps that this is one upfront. I think that this song will both draw listeners in and fulfill George’s ambition and goal. “Serious” is the first from her debut album Contrast, which is due out soon. Give “Serious” a listen and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
