Rich Bout-It and Guce Warn Those Who Want to Test: Don’t “F.A.F.O.”

I sometimes shy away from tracks that are on the more-aggressive side of things. I’ve got kids and I try to keep them from using violence to solve issues. That said, sometimes, you’ve got to go there and I realize that. And sometimes, you’ve got to go there in music. Those songs, if we’re being real, also have a plethora of knowledge within them. Hell, many of them are more conscious than “conscious” rappers’ songs. For example, while both were amazing, I learned more from Biggie and Pac than I did from Digable Planets, for example. All three were incredible and legendary, just that two of them delivered the message in a way I could better digest as a kid.

In the case of Rich Bout-It and Bay Area legend Guce’s “FAFO,” that knowledge is blunt and deadly serious. It’s also incredibly simple in the sense that it should be common sense. Don’t eff around and find out what that life is really about. IYKYK. See, simple but effective.

Sonically, “FAFO” is equal parts “don’t write a check your [butt] can’t cash” and West Coast bop that’s reminiscent of other greats. I was very blown away by the production, as the beat thumps like the heartbeat of the street. That beat enhances the lyrics, profound and purposely honest, and turns them into a mantra as well as a cautionary tale. Again, more conscious and real-life-oriented than some others. Overall, it’s that type of song that makes its presence known and is anthemic for those who don’t want people testing them. And that, my friends, is something that anyone can appreciate.
