I got this one in my SH queue about an hour ago. Teia Elaine, a Raleigh, NC singer/songwriter who comes from a musical family, described it as a “funky upbeat hit song [that] gives ‘Work it Out’ mixed with ‘Uptown Funk.'” I have to agree that’s it’s giving a little bit of Beyoncé mixed with some Bruno Mars and a healthy dose of “I’ma say what I want and not give a damn about who doesn’t like it.”

I’m here for the healing aspect of words, because sometimes words mean even more than actions. Crazy, I know. However, you sometimes just need to hear someone who you rock with say “hey, I love you” for no real reason other than “I just wanted to tell you.”

I love the swagger here, as it’s like that booming “I’ma let my [grapefruits] hang” sort of hip-hop that you’d get from the South or Midwest. I also appreciate that, even as a sports-centric sort of track, it doesn’t play cheese with its metaphors and punchlines.
