Ekelle Comes Back to Positivity and Pro-Blackness

When I first heard Ekelle’s “Come Back,” I knew I had to post it. From speaking on Black lives mattering, the pandemic, false allies and false narratives, “Come Back” is an incredible track that is conscious rap at its best. It’s lyrically sound and lyrically strong as well.

The imagery in the video is just as powerful as the lyricism, floating between protest images and still shots of murals dedicated to George Floyd, Malcolm X and MLK among others. The chorus, sung by Ekelle, reminds me a bit of a Little Brother-type of track. Additionally, the second verse–by veteran artist Gee Wunder–helps to hammer the point home that Black is beautiful and that it always comes back to us (mainly, our own elevation against the grain of societal pressure). Check out the beautiful music below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
