Curt Quinn’s “The Recipe” sounds like an Anderson.Paak song with a bit of Musiq Soulchild mixed in. That’s a bit like cheating because that’s exactly how he described it when I was pitched the song. However, if it’s true, it’s true. And, for a lack of a better phrase, it’s true here.
“The Recipe” has a distinct boombap R&B sort of feel to it. That’s to say it walks that fine line between early 2000s Roots feel-good track, Dwele vibes and a contemporary R&B song. In other words, it’s a great song that’s as catchy as it is inspirational. It manages to throw in a good amount of spirituality and positivity in at once, creating a song that’s borderline timeless.
