IMONI Discusses Toxicity on “Cheap Dreams”

IMONI’s “Cheap Dreams” deals with the toxicity of a relationship. It also speaks on the toxicity of unrealistic expectations. The song is made more potent (pun intended) by its intoxicating vocals and video. Her vocals are beautiful, but also mesmerizingly haunting, as if she’s singing her soul out through this one in an effort to keep her soul and sanity. The video, on the other hand, features the UK singer/songwriter draped in neon and a pinkish purple, sometimes in a bathtub with seemingly poisonous plants around it. The symbolism is on point here and the pink and green kind of give of a Poison Ivy vibe, without making IMONI into some sort of flawed femme fatale. They also give off the idea of looking at the world in literal rose-colored shades.
