I think I’ve only been in the friend zone two or three times (that I remember) in my years of talking to people romantically. The times I remember being friend zoned are in high school and once in 2011/2012. That said, I’m a big fan of W8VEY’s “Friend Zone,” possibly because I still understand that the friend zone can suck if there’re deeper feelings involved on one side or the other. It’s got a Post Malone meets The Weeknd sort of feel to it. That is, the song is light and airy, but still lets the darkness and sadness of being in the friend zone permanently permeate through the track. I love the visual setup too, from the awkward hug to the late night texts. We can all relate to wanting to be more than friends with someone, so the universal appeal of this one is wide-reaching. Plus, the track’s a bop sonically. Check it out below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
