Nautical Discusses Rebirth on New Breath

When Nautical hit my line, he said he was similar to Ye, Kendrick and Lil Dicky. With that trio in mind, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know whether to expect on-the-nose gospel or metaphor-heavy rap about religion. Thankfully (for my mind and ears), the answer lies somewhere in the middle. Sometimes, the middle ground is the best place to be.

“New Breath” is lyrically sound and impressive as the 18-year-old rapper cuts through a heavy beat to speak his peace about his religion while also channeling images of being reborn after a baptism of sorts. I like this one as it’s not on-the-nose about its religious overtones. It has that sort of DONDA feel to it (whether or not you like Ye as a person, you’ve got to admit that DONDA had some solid moments to it). If this is a teaser of what we’re going to get from the teenaged rapper in the future, sign me up. Check out the track below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
