Every time I say “oh, I’m not looking for instrumentals,” Takada Fu hits my line with something new and fresh. His latest instrumental, “Tiger,” finds the Japanese beatsmith sampling 1950s-era jazz for a methodical beat. Just because it’s a bit methodical doesn’t mean that there’s no room for experimentation, as Fu’s chopping and boombap-esque drops and drums create an intoxicating mix over the 1:15 song. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. Other than that, it’s damn near perfect, bringing to mind beatsmiths like Nujabes to mind. Check it out below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
