Over a soundscape that’s more reminiscent of a college marching bad than a traditional hip-hop beat, Open Mike Eagle discusses…well, a lot. From the state of the world to the state of music, OME touches a lot of topics with a swiftness and with agility usually reserved for doubletime raps. We’re bounced all over the place, but we never lose focus on the important things. The beat is the star here, even though OME doesn’t sit on his laurels and coast by any stretch of the imagination. This song is slated to appear on Time Invested II, a collection of tracks from Factor that appears to feature a bevy of artists who’re there for one thing and one thing only: to create good music in the face of adversity and pandemic-fueled fearfulness.
The album is due out March 28th, which coincides with Factor’s 40th birthday, per the Bandcamp link for the project. If it’s anything like the frantic-but-calculated energies exhibited on “Sleep,” this one’s going to be a special project. Check out “Sleep Upside Down” above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
