Over a smooth, thumping boombap instrumental, hip-hop duo BCKGMN (Backgammon) burst onto the scene at SOTB.com and present the aptly titled “Bckgmn.” This one’s off their Boarding Pass album, which has been making a great share of noise recently. The group, whose name is an acronym for “Be confident, keep grinding, make noise,” hop on the beat and rip it. I love the way they ride the beat, because it reminds me of a mix between OutKast and Kendrick. That is, they’re good on the older-school boombap tip but also proceed to provide, like Kast and Kendrick, that new-school lyricism. Check this out and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
