I’m a nerd, plain and simple. Growing up, though, you realize that everyone’s a nerd about something. Be it science, anime or sports, we all have our interests that we nerd out on. Ramond presents an anthem for those who may feel out of place with “Smart Guy,” a song that interpolates the 1990s sitcom’s theme to a neo-soul sort of vibe that allows for some pretty introspective lyrics to be spat throughout the song.
I like the energy Ramond attacks the topic of “smart isn’t ‘cool'” and how he turns it on its head to further the philosophy that brains are just as valuable as brawn. Sonically, the song sounds a bit like a mix between Cole and Childish Gambino’s Because The Internet-era hip-hop, which makes perfect sense considering the subject matter. If you’re feeling alone because you think your nerdish tendencies won’t allow you to be seen as “normal,” this song says “screw that; you’re awesome just the way you are.” Check it out below and support dope music in all its forms.
