I’m always a big fan of rap and R&B that’s nostalgic, but still brand-new in its approach. For an example of this, check out Pallaví aka Fijiana’s “Touch Me.” Featuring Bay Area artist Stunnaman02, “Touch” feels like a mix between the Russ track “Best on Earth” and early 2000s-era call-and-response lyrics and energies. Overall, the song is sexy without being crass, sensual without being cliched and nostalgic without completely copying older sounds and experiences. I haven’t heard much from Pallaví aka Fijiana, but I’m definitely intrigued by the vocals, lyrics and the way that she and Stunna make beautiful music together.
