Above, we’ve got “Moor of Me,” the latest cut from Brandon Lott and San Diego rapper Amon. The soulful track features the duo speaking on what it means to be a Black person in America, while also discussing race relations and the place of religion in Black America’s life.
For example, Lott says that he doesn’t wear his cross anymore. To me, he’s saying that organized religion has reeked havoc on Black minds, for one reason or another. If I had the time, I’d break down what organized religion means to me. As always, though, this ain’t about me. However, the love God gives and the strength God gives? That transcends the physical or material. This is what we get. On top of that, we get bars from Amon that help flesh out the story and the various ways we try to get by.
