2100 Bagz and Kidd Called Quest Connect on “D Boy”

Like Maya Angelou’s classic poem, “still, I rise.” Welcome to the homestretch on SpeedontheBeat.com. Over the next year or so, this is where I’ll winding down/taking an extended break from my career as a writer. In other words, the thought I create from here on out are some of my last works. Enjoy. I’ll be speaking more on this at a later date.

Enough about me, though. Let’s just vibe and get into some good music.

The above is the new track from 2100 Bagz and Kidd Called Quest, “D Boy.” Clocking in at about two-and-a-half minutes, the song is a bit shorter than what I usually post about. However, one can’t avoid this one, mainly because of its story of the daily grind in Detroit. Ish ain’t sweet or easy, but people keep it moving and growing.

The story told here is one of maturation, struggle and even a bit of optimism in the face of negativity. Bar-wise, the Midwest-residing Bagz gives us a ton of conscious-leaning lyrics about the struggle and how it shapes us for the better, even when things look dark. The grind never stops, even when you feel at your lowest. The best thing to do is to keep pushing, keep prospering.

I also loved the production as it’s partly boombap and partly a newer-school track dedicated to those classic sounds. It’s great and would feel right at home in almost any playlist. Don’t take my word for it, though. Check out “D Boy” above and support dope music in all its forms.
