Joaquin and The Glowliners “Remember” Love and Vintage Vibes in

Anyone who knows their way around SOTB, you know that I’m an old soul at heart–even when I support dope music in all its forms. I say that because I always have a soft spot for retro-adjacent songs. Specifically, I love that early-’60s to late-’70s era of R&B, soul, and even a bit of doowop. It brings a smile to my face to hear someone channeling those sounds. It makes me feel even better when the song is a helluva bop. Enter San Antonio-based group Joaquin and The Glowliners.

This Chicano soul project has, pardon the cliche, their collective fingers on the pulse of what’s good in the world. I mean that they, led by frontman Joaquin Muerte, make great music but also do good in their communities. From Muerte’s work with other local staples such as Eddie and The Valiants to their uplifting efforts in the Texas Latino community, there’s a lot to love about the group. And then you hear them play and, if you’re a soul-head like me, you’ll fall deeper in love with them. There’s a certain level of respect paid to the sound’s roots, while also making a love song for the 2020s. Regardless, it’s still timeless (music).

Big KRIT references aside, I also really enjoyed the way the video plays out. Its B&W treatment give it an even-bigger throwback feel. This is while the visuals themselves are very warm and intimate. Overall, if you need something vintage-sounding with modern sensibilities, you should listen to this one and view its video. If you’re not as big on throwback vibes, but love your love songs with love, then you’ll love this one. Did I forget to mention how much I love the overall feelings of this track? Before I devolve my commentary any further, check out the visuals below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
