I just found this new tape from New Jersey artist Kay D. Kay D, a young man who, per his Twitter, is “an African with an expired work visa and a mixtape,” delivers a collection that is both a bit tongue-in-cheek and completely heartfelt. Any artist that can get on a Dilla classic and give it 100% gets a co-sign from me. And an artist who speaks truths such as “any supporter of the craft [of hip-hop] is big (as in big-time)” definitely gets a co-sign. In some ways, this collection plays out a bit like early-era Drake with a bit more grittiness. But, I’ll let Kay D himself tell you some more about to project.
