Over the weekend, Drake just decided to say “fuck it all” and get on OVO Sound Radio and drop some stuff people’d been unaware they needed. However, once it dropped, they knew it was some shit that they had to have. I’m going to focus on the two biggest tracks from this week’s edition. First up, we’ve got “4PM in Calabasas,” keeping in the Drake tradition of dropping “Time in Place” tracks after albums. It’s equal parts Bad Boy homage and Diddy subliminals with that “Drake Gonna Spit for a Minute” type of energy. Overall, though? It’s a solid track, but in terms of “Time in Place” Drake tracks? It’s probably second or third at the moment. I mean…”5AM in Toronto” is still a thing.
Next, we got some new Gucci, “Back on Road.” Gucci has been…busy as hell since being released. He’s been everywhere, even with Kanye. This track goes. The Murda Beatz-produced track lets Gucci black out in a way both reminiscent of Gucci’s classic days and somewhat unseen. If this is how Gucci’s going at it, gimme that new Gucci.
