New SOTBMusic: @YourOldDroog – PACKS

Remember when we thought that Your Old Droog was an alias of Nas? Well, in the time between that and now, Droog has built a pretty dope discography and a pretty vocal fan base of his own. That’s what happens when you give the people great music and have a bit of mystery to your persona (yes, even still, after we know that YOD isn’t Nas, there’s still some mystery there). Now, PACKS is exactly what you’d expect from Droog. And that, my friends is no bad thing.

There are bars all over the place. There’s storytelling out the you-know-what. Also, there’s a bit of humor thrown in for good measure. It showcases what made people fall in love with Your Old Droog in the first place, but gives us enough newness that it doesn’t feel like a rehash of any of his older stuff.

Featuring collaborations with artists such as Danny Brown, the album is a must-listen if you’re in the mood for “BARS!!!!” Additionally, the production has that NYC feel to it without falling into familar tropes. All in all, again, it’s a great album that takes you back to the “good old days” where people didn’t have to sing-song everything to make a dope song. However, it still feels modern enough to not just be brushed off as a throwback throwaway. Check it out below and support dope music in all its forms.
