New SOTBMusic: @NighLawn – HomoSapien (feat. Slater The Genius)

When I first started SpeedontheBeat.com, it was my safe space in some ways. A place where I could talk about things that got to me, but also things that made me. However, as things evolved, I stopped being all about Speed and became rejuvenated with a new purpose for the site: putting up and putting on the dopest people I came in contact with. Why? Because I’m all about helping those who are into dopeness. Well, that and I just love giving people I rock with in some way a look because there’s a lot of greatness out here that goes undiscovered. So, instead of patting myself on the back for making it to 1,000 posts…I figure it’s better spent talking some new dope jams.

If you know me, you know I’ve been rocking with Dope Music Village folks for a minute. So, when I heard that NighLawn dropped a new track, I was on it like “yas.” Why? Because she puts down dope tracks and never fails to impress me. Her latest, “HomoSapien,” continues that trend. She has a great grasp on how to get people singing along, that’s for sure. But, this Slater The Genius-aided track doesn’t let that limit her bars or her ability to engage on several levels outside of just the sing-song elements and moments.

Overall, I rock with this track because of its real talk (it’s a track about folks who act out of this world with their fuckery and their realness at once) and Lawn’s flow. Her syrupy, bluesy flow lends itself well for a track like this. So, check it out, support dope music wherever it may reside, and thanks for sticking with me through 1,000 posts. Here’s to a thousand more.
