New SOTBMusic: @kittaveli Introduces Us to Her Miami Garden Club

I would be lying to you if I said that I understood this video the first go-around. I loved Kitty’s voice and her lyrics were simple but complex. However, the glue-to-glitterbomb-to-blood (I think) transformation in the video didn’t take me off guard as much as it had me scratching my head. Therefore, I ran the video back a few more times. Here’s what I think: beneath the somewhat sweet lyrics of the song, we’re dealing with a situation that’s darker than it seems on paper. Maybe there’s also a comment or two about sexuality and shattering convention in there as well. Or maybe it’s a somewhat dark video purposely paired with this song to showcase the duality (there’s that word again) of human emotion. Or maybe I’m thinking about it too much and I should stop here.Either way, I’m loving the song and love the video. So, check it out below and support dope music in all its forms.
UPDATE 7/28, 4:50PM — I spoke briefly with Kitty on Twitter about my writeup. She confirmed that the visuals and the like are about rape, which adds an even darker element to everything. I still think the track and the visuals are great. Now, I think they carry even more weight with the meaning and message behind them.
