Well, this is both unexpected and expected at the same damn time. While we haven’t heard much from King Los since his 2015 project (aside from a track/mini-mixtape here and there) GodMoneyWar, we kind of still expected him to come back with some heat. So, when I heard that he dropped three tracks, the i am not a industry plant EP, I was excited because the man has bars even when he’s doing “mainstream” songs (which was one of my chief complaints about GodMoneyWar).
This project doesn’t go “mainstream” at all really. Because of that, it’s one of the best projects I’ve heard from him in a minute. He effortless talks on some “real-ass shit” before transitioning to finding a safe place and lamenting on a lack of time (for a lot of things). I am a bit surprised by the use of Auto-Tune on tracks, but the lyrics outweigh my uncertainties about the Auto-Tune.
Overall, the EP gives us a look into where Los is at (mentally and otherwise) during this point in his career. It’s a definite listen if you’re a fan of the Baltimore hip-hop icon. If you want some dope bars and concepts, this is a pretty sweet jam as well. So, check it out below and support dope music in all its forms. If this is just the prelude, I’m impatiently waiting to see what the rest of the show’s going to be like.
