Corina Corina’s latest album, Hangover Music, was funded completely by bar tips. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the project delves heavily into the singer’s relationship with alcohol. Every song isn’t directly related to booze, but the narrative structure of the project takes us through four alcohol-centered times and discusses love, life, depression, and relationships through the lens of alcohol and the vibes drinking can provide.
The genre-blending project finds Corina singing the blues while also rapping a few bars here and there about her life and all that entails. My personal favorite track on the album is probably “Wedding Season,” as, while I’m not single, I have felt like the odd man out at weddings and events because I’m still not married (officially and in the eyes of the Lord). However, the album isn’t just doom and gloom, as hope resonates throughout even the darkest of motifs, aided by Corina’s soulful voice.
Hangover Music shows growth from Corina as an artist and, like the last sip of Jack (yes, even as someone who now abstains, I can still talk about alcohol), it lingers on your lips for a bit before it dissipates, reminding you of the good and the bad of the evening.
