I’m a sucker for tracks where artists trade bars with each other. Since hearing songs such as “We Gonna Make It” back in the day, I’ve had a soft spot for those sorts of tracks. As a matter of fact, the only thing I regret about my music career is that I never recorded a song like this. C’est la vie. The homie Lex Rush hit my line with her latest, “Let Go,” and I had the screwface on the whole time.

Featuring Jackson Whalan and LILEL, the track features Whalan and Rush trading lyrics about their elevated status over a smooth instrumental. It’s the type of rappity-rap you need in these uncertain times. It’s lyrical as hell, but not condescending in its approach or lyricism. It’s full of distinctly old-school NY bars, but modern enough that you wouldn’t feel out of place including it on a 2020s playlist.
If you’re like me and have rocked with Lex since her early days, this is a further evolution of her style. If you’re new to Lex and her music, this is a great introduction. In a world where artists are walking away, it’s great to hear fellow visionaries pushing forward. Check out the song above via song.link and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
