Let’s Talk D’onco the Don’s Prelude

I know, I know. “Speed’s talking about Elite projects again.” Why wouldn’t I, though? The collective has consistently put out some of the best music I’ve heard/been a part of over the last few years. With that in mind, let’s talk D’onco the Don’s The Prelude EP.

For those who don’t know, D’onco is another Elite member, one who drops in where you least expect it. With that in mind, the brother always gives his all in his bars when he does appear, though. The Prelude is literally that. It’s the introduction to who D’onco is as an artist and a person, and as an Elite member I’m proud of the man he’s becoming. My favorite track off the EP is the “Statement Freestyle,” a fire verse over a chop of Major Harris’ “I Got Over Love.” I’ve always been partial to songs that sample that classic; I even dropped a verse or two over a chop of it during my 2012 days (and no, you can’t hear it). But, D’onco combines confident bars with introspection and gives listeners a solid solo debut. He’s lyrical when needed, but then knows how to just talk his shit.

Check out the project above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
