Over a braggadocios beat, Nellz GC takes no seconds off and attacks his opposition. The beat itself is a bit sparse, with only a synth, a piano-esque sound and heavy base. That said, the beat provides Nellz with a great soundscape to rip up and let people know why he’s still one of the hottest out of the city.
Nellz’ flow sounds great on just about every beat he gets on. I’m a huge fan of the simplistic approach to the video, which features Nellz and his team in front of several Baltimore landmarks–including the Ray Lewis statue at M&T Bank Stadium. This hits harder because of the fact that Nellz raps about hitting his opponents like 52. While it’s a bit on the nose, the only thing that would’ve made that section of the song better for me visually is if Nellz and company found some way to incorporate Ray Lewis sacking someone.
While “No Air” was originally released on Nellz’ 2020 Live from Da Net EP, the newly-released visuals put the song back on the front of my mind. As mentioned, Nellz’ attack-heavy but Baltimore AF flow is what holds this one together. That’s, of course, not to say his bars aren’t up to snuff (because they are). However, the way Nellz just levitates over the production makes this one a must-see/must-hear. Check it out below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
