“Give me my flowers while I can still smell them” is a common theme, both in music and in life. It’s one of the rules of life I live by. Even if I’m not the best of friends with someone, if they’re doing dope things, I’m going to shout them out–and I hope they do the same for me.
With that in mind, “When I’m Here” from rhymesayer Vocab Slick takes this philosophy and takes it a step further. That is, he chooses to focus the entire song on giving/getting those aforementioned flowers. Lyrically, Slick is on point here, as his rhyme schemes are solid and his metaphors are thought-provoking. The beat is perfect for this type of track, as it kind of reminds me a bit of Nipsey Hussle’s “Victory Lap.”
