Nick Blast Takes Listeners to His Town on Adelphi State of Mind

Nick Blast’s “The Adelphi State of Mind” has a distinctly old-school feel to it, with a tiny bit of a go-go tinge to it on the beat. This is mainly because “Adelphi” utilizes instruments not often heard in hip-hop. For instance, flutes dart in and out of the song while making up the melody. It’s also DMV proudly and unabashedly. Blast’s swagger and flow sounds like a mix between Wale’s coolness and confidence and Fat Trel’s street storytelling.

The track itself details what it’s like living in the PG County region of Adelphi. For those who don’t know, Adelphi is close to UMD’s College Park campus. There are some instances of some wild stuff happening there, and this is something Blast alludes to on the song. It makes it known that the area isn’t just hood stories and wild shenanigans. However, it also doesn’t shy away from the concept that these things do still happen in Adelphi. It’s a solid SOTBMusic debut for the DMV artist.
