On its own, the production on “One of One” is solid and lends itself well to mood music. Sonically, it’s one of those types of songs that’s triumphant as much as it is defiant. However, when you add REKS spitting on the beat, you’ve got the makings of an underground classic–especially considering REKS’ pedigree. “One of One” is one of those tracks that feels a bit like Blu and Exile on the production–and on the lyrical–side. REKS and Eleven provide dope bars on the verses while Jason D gives some soulful boombap production everywhere else. It’s that good ol’ throwback sound you don’t hear as much these days, which makes it sound that much more distinct.
