This one reached my inbox because Phoenix’s Jalopy Bungus saw I’m a huge fan of lo-fi boombap rap music. He already got my attention because of that, and the humbleness he approached me. So he reached out with “Corner 3,” featuring Chicago/Florida artist Blvck Svm. This one speaks to my heart and speaks to why I started SOTB in the first place. That is, aside from being a safe space for me to talk about my own music.
Lyrically, the duo rap their asses off. So, from that standpoint, I was already invested in this one. Y’all know me: I love lyrical hip-hop that isn’t just rapping for the sake of rapping. Bungus and Blvck Svm rap with a purpose and don’t just throw words together because they sound nice. That’s heard doubly through the way that Bungus and Svm present an honest look into themselves on this one. Yes, the track is about untold traumas and pains, but they’re given to the audience in a way that also shows there’s light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. It delves into mental health and stability without beating its audience over the head with it, which is also appreciated.
