ShooterGang Kony and Kalan.FrFr Battle for Hearts in “The Game”

On “The Game,” Shooter Gang Kony and his feature, artist Kalan.FrFr, battle each other for the heart of a woman. Sounds simple, right? Well, the execution of the visuals (down to the “we got sucked into a video game” elements) and the execution of the song itself keep it from falling over into that “this is corny” territory.

Instead, Kony and Kalan provide a sound that’s mainstream-friendly but still lyrically sound and even quite impressive at points. I like the concept of the song beyond just the video game element. That is, “The Game” is a softer-sounding song that doesn’t go fully soft, much to its advantage. It kind of reminds me a bit of a Roddy Ricch song mixed with the swagger of Mixtape Wayne; it’s lyrically sound and still is a bop.
