Jordan Baumstark’s “Bankroll” blends sports punchlines with a throwback beat and solid verses. It’s like a combination of Larry June and Mac Miller with a bit of Curren$y in there, flow-wise. And no, the Mac comparison isn’t just because Jordan and Mac are both dope white rappers. Instead, you can tell Jordan loves hip-hop and what it’s allowed him to do (like Mac). This love for the art comes out in spades throughout the self-produced track. There’s a bit of playfulness while he also presents some serious moments.
It’s a solid introduction to Baumstark, one that’s made that much more solid by its video.
The video gives me throwback vibes, just like the rest of the song. However, it’s not just an homage to older hip-hop. It becomes its own thing, partly through the love for hip-hop Baumstark shows throughout the entire process.
