I’m a guy who grew up on 90s R&B and 90s sitcoms, like every 28-35 year-old. Swoon Supreme’s latest is for the Martin lovers in us all, as he puts a ton of references to 1990s classic shows into this one, while also making it more than just a trip down memory lane. The song is more about a relationship that seems written in the stars, even though those stars still seem a bit fleeting. I love the vocals Swoon employs on the chorus, as they remind me of a mix between Nip’s reminiscent tone and Cole’s sing-songy approach.
The Houston native made a beautiful track here, one that’s equally a throwback and a song that reminds me a bit of “Wet Dreamz,” minus the dog love aspect of the video. He’s got his finger on the pulse of people who want to see their love lives prosper–but are sometimes a bit too afraid to pull the trigger completely. I’m here to say: take the shot. Even if you miss, you’ll at least have it out there for that other person to know, should they change their mind. I’m also a huge fan of the storytelling aspect.
