Amsterdam-based artist Candy Coup’s “Summerhouse Flow” has a mesmerizing element to it, kind of like obtaining a new level of consciousness. I think that’s partly because of the introspection he employs on this one and partly because the production doesn’t fit neatly into any one hip-hop subgenre. It’s lo-fi meets boombap meets alt-rap with a bit of punk rap in there as well. In other words, “Summerhouse Flow” sounds all over the place and laser-focused at the same time. It could be because his influences include DOOM and Ye, but this one is abstract AF without being overly inaccessible. Check it out and remember to do the thing: support dope music in all its forms. You never know when you’ll find a new mantra to delve into your elevation with.
