Typically, I’d say that a song like “Violets” is a bit too on the pop side of things, with its upbeat guitar lick-having nature. However, Kid Travis adds in more than enough soul and harmony that it becomes its own thing. So, what grabbed me about this one is that it’s upbeat, but also that it manages to tell a bit of a love story between Travis and his special someone. Plus, I like violets (even though I’m more of a sunflowers and roses sort of guy) and what they represent.
Violets typically represent love like roses, but it’s more of an innocent love, one that can last through anything. Add that onto the fact that Violet Evergarden is one of my favorite anime. That’s important because the song makes me think of Violet’s yearning to understand love. You put that together and you’ve got more than enough reasons why I’m posting about this one. Kid Travis is quietly becoming one of my favorite artists because of his pen and his vocals. They’re equally sweet and soulful, a delicate mix of pop and neo-soul.
