Jeopardy J Gives Us a Story on “Lost Files”

North Carolina artist Jeopardy J hit my line recently with one of his latest tracks, “Lost Files.” What grabbed me at first about the song is bruhman’s storytelling. It’s like a mix between NYC rhymesayers and Down South lyricists. He details a day in the life that ends on a big cliffhanger. However, the way he presents the story is bound to make you come back for part two.

Lyrically, he’s straightforward and doesn’t waste time or bars with overthought lyrics. Instead, we get right down to things. I appreciate this as a lyricist and a critic, mainly because sometimes you need good stories without the technical prowess. That said, J’s bars aren’t slouchy by any means; he just uses a lot of plain language to tell his story, which helps it stick with you better—in my opinion.

The visuals feature J and his partners in rhyme laying down tracks, J with his girl, then the aforementioned cliffhanger. I loved the tension this young artist captures in his bars and with the video. You feel like you’re right there with him, wondering how things are going to work out. If you’re like me and need some lyrically-impressive storytelling, check the visuals out above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
