File this one under “shocking.” That’s mainly because I never knew that Nick Cannon sang, Autotuned or otherwise. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised that the song is quite pleasant to the ears. On top of that, the song is sweet, like a John Legend track circa “All of Me.” “Eyes Closed,” with its lovely production and vocals, is an example of Cannon trying something new and mostly succeeding at it. Say what you will about the man (and yes, I’ve called some of his early movies so-so at best). However, he definitely knows how to put things together that work. Wild N’ Out and his host work are two examples of this.

Back to “Eyes Closed,” the video features several scenes interspersed within it, jumping back between Cannon and a woman he wants to marry and a wedding between two people who seemed destined to take the plunge from the very start. I think this one works because it’s not overly cheesy. Instead, it opts for heartfelt moments and lyricism throughout the song and video. It hits that sweet spot that allows for some “aww that’s sweet” moments.
