First, I’ve got to give a huge shoutout to Josh at Illect. His artists are top-tier, mixing in lo-fi, boombap and just all the things about rap that make me warm and fuzzy. When he hit me up first on SubmitHub, I knew it’d be the start of a great working relationship. He provides me with songs, I get to have my earholes treated to dope music and you, SOTB Faithful, get to read/see my thoughts on said dope music. With that in mind, let’s get into Sareem Poems and Madi’s latest, “Fallen Stars.”
The overarching theme of the track is “learn to love yourself for who you are” and to “embrace the story behind them scars,” as the hook says. Lyrically, it’s sound and sonically, it’s warm and soothing. All things considered, this is the exact track I needed to hear this week. Over the last few weeks, things have been, in a word, hectic in my non-SOTB life. So much so, I’ve had a “I don’t know if I’m coming or going” moment on several occasions. However, I slap myself to make sure I can still feel, plug into tasty jams and remember: this is my life, and only I have the right to say where it’ll go (outside of, you know, divine intervention from my God). I continue to, because of this, shoot for the moon and reach stars whenever I do what I do. But enough about me, the song is beautifully done. Check it out below, be on the lookout for more from Sareem Poems and support dope music in all its forms.
