D’Vo’s latest reminds us that the best blends of secular and gospel are done by those who admit to their humanity but still want to uplift people around them. A mix between alt-rap and Christian hip-hop, “As He Dies For Your Sins” finds the rapper speaking about Jesus’ sacrifice and humanity in a way that’s engaging but not “preachy.” Instead, D’Vo’s lyrics dart over the Southern rap-esque beat. He does so in a way that reminds me of UGK, OutKast and Big KRIT sonically. I also loved the vocals on the track, as they add another element to the song. The song is a bit theatrical, but that’s why it works.
In other words, it’s perfect CHH for those who aren’t in the church 24/7. It’s great for folks like me who believe in God, but often feel a disconnect with how some preachers try to connect religion to everyday life. If you’re intrigued, I suggest checking this one out below (D’Vo is an awesome and humble artist) and supporting dope music in all its forms.
