Chase Woods Sings About the Past on “Landlords”

New Zealander Chase Woods’ team hit my line with this one a little while ago. One of the things I liked about it was that it blended rap harmonies with indie R&B musings and conscious bars about growing up in a rough environment and what happens after we grow up. It’s an upbeat song about hard times, one that’ll bring to mind Anderson.Paak or Mac. Well, at least it did for me.

The Maori artist uses his life experiences to paint a picture of how things were for him as a child. Quite honestly, they were rough and reminiscent of some of the things and people I’ve been around myself as a youth. Trigger happy police, a system that may fail you at any time, poor conditions financially or otherwise. Yeah, I think it’s safe to say that most of us who frequent SOTB have been there, so it helps people like us empathize more with others in similar boats.

I really think this is one that should be checked out at once. So, you know the drill. Check it out above and support dope music in all its forms.
