As I’m closer to 40 than 20, I’m slowly going into that so-called “oldhead” category. I’ll never be an “old man yells at cloud” hip-hop fan or music writer. That said, I tend to like what I like and often will not change preferences unless something really blows me away. I do, however, like to think that I’m young enough to still do it and old enough to know when to say when. “With age comes wisdom” and all that jazz.
Minnesota rap group Unknown Prophets’ “Say Goodbye” is a track that deals with maturation and growth from the eyes of men who’ve seen it all and have lived their lives within hip-hop’s embrace in one way or another. It’s also a song that admits that, even with wisdom, we never have all the answers. Instead, life is full of lessons from birth until death. We never stop learning, even as we’re saying goodbye to things we once held as truths. “Goodbye” is an intriguing song, one that blends experience with more contemporary sounds.
If this piqued your interest, I recommend checking out the track below and doing the thing (supporting dope music in all its forms). This song will appear on the group’s EVOLVE album, which is due out in a few weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to write about the Unknown Prophets. I agree, whether you’re 40 or 14, this track and the entire project is about being truthful to yourself, your craft, and never giving up the dream to dream.

Hey Brent, I’m ready for the project proper. And you’re right. When it comes to your craft, age is nothing but a number.
