Swank Bands Presents a Journey on ‘Purpose’

I initially discovered Swank Bands via the title track of his Purpose album. Five years in the making, Purpose–both the song and the album–delve into who Bands is as an artist (and a human being). Sonically, it reminds me a lot of early KRIT, circa Cadillactica. It’s thumping soul food for the mind and spirit. Asking the question “good music speaks for itself, right?” to an artist/writer who’s spent a good portion of his life trying to churn out quality content is like asking a bird “can you fly?”

Bands, on this project, does more than fly and make good music. He soars while making content that also presents as a masterclass in what it’s like to create quality conscious music. I say “quality” because not all socially-conscious rap is actually fundamentally good. Heck, I’ve definitely had some stinkers submitted to me over the years. I can’t really pick a favorite song because every song has something else to love about it that you may not have had on the previous cut. There’s something for everyone who’s willing to open their mind and receive the tracks Swank Bands put together.

If you need some quality music tonight (or this week), I recommend checking this one out ASAP and support dope music in all its forms.
