On ‘BeatuS II,’ 808 Saints Give Us a Lot of Lessons and Love

I initially came into contact with the duo 808 Saints from two songs they submitted to me, “Coffee” and “Same Team.” “Coffee” is one of those let’s go get our just due type of songs. It’s the perfect way to wake up–like a strong cup of coffee. “Same Team” is more of a love song for that person you can let your guard down with. I’m here for that, especially since I love when I can let my guard down with my shawty.

The rest of the album is a mix between lessons learned, lessons earned and love for the art and humanity (in some ways). This is done while also creating vibe-friendly bops that don’t come off as condescending or elitist–which is always nice. Sonically, the album reminds me of a mix between Childish Gambino (circa Because the Internet) and J Cole, in that it’s very lyrically-deep while also having a bit of playfulness to the whole thing. There’s even music that hits you in the feels outside of the romantic ones.

All in all, this is a very solid album. It’s one that’ll make me stay tuned for what the duo does next. Check it out above and support dope music in all its forms.
