A retro soul song about “telling a loved one [he’s] fed up and moving on,” Terry Blade’s “Won’t Be Around” feels like it stepped right out of the 1950s with its rural Americana vibes. I love the song because it’s so simple in its approach and execution, but deals with some very strong and powerful emotions. This song appears on Blade’s Ethos: Son of a Sharecropper project, which will release on Bandcamp in the next few weeks. The project is on Spotify, but I recommend purchasing it. The songs here that I’ve heard and the energies of the ones I’ve just discovered? This is a complex but beautiful portrait of who Blade is an an artist and a man.
