Marvin Gaye is a legend for so many reasons. His sensual nature on songs was one of the reasons why. One of the songs of that degree is “Sexual Healing.” But does sex still hold the same weight in 2023 as it did in the 1980s? I think so, as does Zø Marie.
“I Wanna Love You” is “Sexual Healing” from a woman’s perspective, especially taking into consideration how the dating world has changed since then. People are more about hooking up (well, the 20-somethings anyway; I’m happy with just The Shawty) than they are about building meaningful connections with people.
To some, sex becomes less of a special thing and more of a random itch you just “have” to scratch. On top of that, people can be downright nasty and disrespectful when it comes to interactions with the opposite (or same, if you’re into the same) sex. Zø Marie took those experiences and wrote a pretty powerful song about them. Check it out below and support dope music in all its forms. This is slated to appear on the 20-something New Yorker’s Soulmate album, which is due out soon.
