Wow. That’s all I’ve really got to say here. Broadway star Syndee Winters (known for roles in plays such as Hamilton) recently performed at 54 Below. 54 Below, for those unaware, is located in New York City in the basement of the legendary Studio 54. It’s more of an intimate experience than its above-ground sister. During Winters’ performance, she blended “Satisfied” from Hamilton and “Doo Wop (That Thing)” by Lauryn Hill. The end result is a high-energy performance that exceeds expectations as the instrumentation swells with anticipation for its big breakdown. Said breakdown, along with Winters’ vocals, definitely deliver–and then some.
It’s fitting that this legend-in-the-making blended these songs so well during Women’s History Month (and right after International Women’s Day). I mean, Lauryn Hill is a part of history and Angelica Schuyler is as well. If you’re intrigued by this “mashup,” check it out above and support dope music in all its forms.
