Oftentimes, you’ll get breakup songs that are very sad, very emotionally-charged and even a bit celebratory (if the love was toxic AF). You don’t usually get braggish, borderline Drake vibes that come off as both “cocky and still hurting.” Enter HailVee’s “Hours in Darkness,” from his Masculinity album. The song is a breakup anthem, but it boasts about the things Vee still has–even though he’s obviously hurt from the breakup. Masculinity, as a whole, plays like a journey through “Guy Time.” That’s all while Vee finds himself navigating through potentially toxic behaviors and trying to avoid them as best as possible. It’s like Future meets J. Cole in its content. It’s an interesting track and album, one that’ll get you in your feelings but also make you say “I’m great.” I especially like the heavy Brent Faiyaz vibes we get from the whole thing. Check out the song above and do the thing: support dope music in all its forms.
